Wesleys Eagle Scout!

Throughout 2011 we were all very anticipatory regarding my Eagle Scout Project, I worked consistently on the project over the course of a few months, in spring and in autumn. First I planned and got approval for my project, which was to paint a huge map of the United States of America on a concrete pad in the schoolyard of Liberty Traditional School, where all of the Stine kids (with the exception of me) attended school from 2009-2010. The turnout to help with the project was great, and by the end of the morning (for the map was painted on a Saturday) there was a shiny new 36 foot long map on the concrete. We spent the rest of the day touching up and adding outlines and State capitals. Finally, we went home and came back a few weeks later to find the map gone. This was all done in April and May. The reason the map had disappeared was that the wrong paint had been suggested for use. After finding the right kind of paint, The family and I carefully tested it throughout the summer before coming back to re-apply the map in autumn. The second map held out much better than the first and the school was very pleased with both maps. The teachers and students think the map is incredible and are very happy about the use the kids get out of it. They love to play on the map and are learning useful geography the whole time! In January I finally got my Eagle Scout award at a splendid Court of Honor at the church ramada. Glen Stilson was the keynote speaker, and Robert Patterson also delivered an address. Even the principle of Liberty Traditional came to talk about how much he appreciated the project that had been done for his school.
